Back to the Grind

The weekend went way to fast! I miss the shore already. I seriously contemplated moving down there and becoming a local. Oh well. Anniversary went great! Tom won me a #12 Cunningham old school jersey from 1990! It’s a reproduction, but I don’t care. It has EAGLES on it and its old school Kelly Green.

My Yaeger materials came today, so guess what I am doing tonight…..wait for it…..wait for it….STUDYING! What else would I be doing? I am still waiting on my NTS. I am keeping my fingers crossed that it comes late tonight or tomorrow morning. When I checked the Prometric site this morning, the days I wanted were still available at my #1 testing site. I hope they still are when it comes time to sign up.

I have taken another approach to this exam in addition to changing my studying material. I will be using social networking to its fullest potential! Instead of “status update stalking” during study breaks, I will actually use Twitter and email to correspond with my new study buddy. I have found a very good conversationalist via Twitter using #twudygroup. For me a good conversationalist actually replies and responds back to my Twits on a consistent and timely basis. Granted the topic is the CPA exam, but we are both able to guide each other and that is what we both need.

The idea came to me as the days got closer to my AUD exam and during the 2nd quarter score release. I realized if I failed a part it was probably because I am doing self study and have no instructor to ask a question to immediately. There is nothing wrong with self study, but I sometimes need a deeper understanding of material right away. This is the one negative I find when it comes to self studying. No instructor when I need them at 2 am on a Tuesday morning. There are message boards out there, but with my luck I would have to wait 2 days until a person found my post, knew the answer and actually responded in a fashion I would comprehend. In addition, I don’t have the time or patience to search 4 different sites for my question and hope someone else answered the post.

I have exchanged email addresses with my buddy. For our situation, he has failed AUD, but I have passed and I failed REG, but he has passed. We have similar access to the same knowledge base and study materials. Our goal is to take our incorrect questions and responses and send them to each other. We will show each other how we came to the correct response. My hope is to see what step I am missing and/or have another point of view explain a rule/regulation. I am really excited to see how everything plays out. I will keep my blog updated with our success and failures. I am sure there is going to be a learning curve on both our parts.

If you want to join in, have a similar story to share, or have a suggestion, feel free to reply or email me. Off to studying I go….

My Anniversary

My boyfriend and I are celebrating our 4th year of insanity, I mean…dating. To make it something special we are going to Wildwood, NJ! I absolutely love the shore, as we call it on the East coast. I hope he doesn’t mind when I bring down my laptop and start studying again.

Upon my return, I fully expect some of my studying material to be delivered. My hope is to sign up for my NTS and get that by Monday or Tuesday. I really want to sit for both parts in the 3rd quarter so I have picked two locations to take the exam. One of them has to have my desired dates.

I hope I can look back on this time in 10 years and be amazed at how I juggled my work life balance. I should write a book!

And back...

It has been way too long. It was just last quarter I started this blog in hopes of gabbing away on my little piece of internet space. Well, that dream faded fast when reality set in. Life comes knocking at the most inopportune times. Well if it doesn’t kill me, it will only make me stronger.

I am happy to announce I have passed AUD!!!!!! FINALLY! My last score was a 74 back in 2009 (I think that’s when I took it last?). Well this time I passed with a 81!

So with good news, comes bad news. I failed REG….again. But on the bright side, I improved from a 68 to a 71! I thank Yaeger CPA review for that. [Side note: I know in past posts I said I would refrain from using names, but I have to give credit where due]. I improved my score a whopping 3 points. I was hoping for a 75 and then I would have one more section to master. Instead, I found that stupid 71 staring back at me in disbelieve. I had my angry fit over Twitter, and got back to focusing on passing.

Since I used Becker twice for this part and a CRAM from Yaeger, I have come to the conclusion that Becker is not my companion for REG. I need something stronger. I have decided to find a new software. After some research and asking on Twitter, I have settled on Yaeger CPA Review. I will also be using them for BEC. My license for Becker is going to expire in August. I still have my books, but I think I won’t be able to access the DVD lectures or questions. It stinks, but my goal is to pass, at any expense necessary.

I hope to be writing more now that my summer will involve long nights with my laptop and netbook instead of sitting on the beach and enjoying the shore. I declare this will be my last summer studying!

Now off to get my finances in order to get my materials! Happy Studying
